This fun, supportive group guitar class introduces students in grades 3–5 to the basics of acoustic guitar in a weekly 60 minute session. Through games, simple songs, and step-by-step technique practice, students will learn proper posture, basic chords, strumming patterns, simple melodies, and how to read basic rhythmic notation. Emphasis is on collaboration, listening skills, and musical confidence in a positive classroom environment.
Learning Goals:
- Develop correct posture, hand position, and basic finger placement
- Learn open chords (e.g., C, G, D, Em, Am) and simple chord changes
- Master basic strumming patterns and simple picking
- Play age-appropriate songs as individuals and in small ensembles
- Read simple rhythmic notation and chord diagrams
- Build listening, timing, teamwork, and performance confidence
Class Structure:
- Warm-up and technique (10–15 min)
- New concept or song introduction (10–15 min)
- Guided practice in small groups/partners (10–20 min)
- Fun games, review, and short performances (5–10 min)
Materials:
- Student-sized acoustic or classical guitar (or teacher-provided)
- Guitar pick (optional), tuner, and notebook
- Printed chord sheets/handouts provided
Outcome: By the end of the session, students will be able to play several simple songs, perform with classmates, and continue building toward independent practice and more advanced chords and melodies.
